Padella, Borough Market

Initially you may be discouraged by the constant queues in front of this buzzing, modern Italian restaurant. I assure you it’s worth the wait. As you step in, you are greeted by the smell of fresh pasta and homemade bread and the menu is simple yet satisfying. It combines fresh and locally sourced ingredients to create an authentic Italian dining experience.

For mains, we opted for Tagliarini with slow-cooked tomato sauce, Pici cacio & pepe, Ravioli of ricotta with sage butter, Pappardelle with 8-hour Dexter beef shin ragu and Fettuccine with chicken liver and wild mushrooms.

Each dish was full of flavour, perfectly al dente, and truly tasted homemade. My personal favourite was the fettuccine with chicken liver and wild mushrooms, which was surprising as it is not something I would usually go for.

There’s always room for dessert, even after sharing five pastas. We decided to go for the chocolate tart, almond & fig tart and a vanilla affogato (so… all the desserts on the menu).

All of the desserts were fantastic, the affogato complemented the almond and fig tart very well.

As you can probably tell, I would recommend braving the queue to eat at this restaurant. The food is exceptional, and great value for money.
